Terpenes, sometimes called terpenoids, are aromatic organic hydrocarbons contained in the cannabis plant, which give it its unique aroma.
In the most basic look at terpenes, they can be called the flavour compounds. This isn’t restricted to cannabis, terpenes are found in pretty much all plants, the difference with cannabis flower is the amazing ability to pack so many in one plant.
To date, there are over 100 identified terpenes in the cannabis flower with over 40 having purported effects on the flowers effects. Things get extra complex when you look at the entourage effect, whereby terpenes can change the reaction of other cannabinoids including THC, CBD and other terpenes!
