Featured: Jointment by Blunt Botanicals

Our journey began with a passion for the transformative power of natural skincare. Jill,  the owner, first created a lovel hemp-oil based natural skincare line, HipBees.com, using honey harvested from her in-laws farm and rosehips she gathered herself. Jointment was an offshoot and created when her dear friend was diagnosed with cancer and was undergoing treatment. Jill wanted to help and had heard promising things about cannabis, so she learned about and experimented with a topical relief application using cannabis, staying true to her natural skincare roots.

Over the past decade, scientific findings have clearly demonstrated that a functional endocannabinoid system is present in almost all peripheral organ systems, including the skin (the body’s largest organ)! In fact, CB1 and CB2 receptors have been found at various locations in the layers of the skin, in both sensory nerve terminal and/or inflammatory cells. THC and CBD cannabinoids have been found to bind with Transient Receptor Potential (TRP) receptors present in various skin cells, which play a crucial role in the inflammatory process.

Through extensive research and countless trials, Jill and her chemist identified the strains and terpenes that work best for different skin needs.  THC is the main cannabinoid of choice for Jointment because it has been shown to bind more efficiently to the CB1 and CB2 receptors in the skin, which in turn provide more relief. In addition, we choose full-spectrum extracts, as minor cannabinoids and just the right amount of CBD, which also prove to bind with Transient Receptor Potential (TRP) receptors present in various skin cells. TRP receptors are known to be involved with the inflammatory process.

Jointment stands out by using full-spectrum cannabis extracts (CBD alone is not full-spectrum), and by ensuring that minor cannabinoids and other botanicals contribute to the formulation, creating an entourage or synergistic effect - meaning all the natural ingredients works together to enhance the therapeutic effects. Did you know there are over 100 cannabinoids, terpenes (the aromas) and flavonoids (medicinal benefits found in plants) found in the cannabis plant?

Jointment contains a carefully selected range of terpenes, including beta-caryophyllene, linalool, pinene, myrcene, and humulene as well as essential or herbal oils, such as arnica and eucalyptus oil (that is responsible for the slightly minty smell). Rather than adding strong smelling oils to mask the cannabis aroma, we choose to enhance the botanical smell so it doesn’t linger and doesn’t cause watery eyes, which can be common with other products. That is definitely a bonus when using it near your head! We whip the cannabinoids right into our natural and clean base of oils and botanicals (free from harmful additives that can cause skin discomfort, like parabens, glycerin and fragrances) and create our luxuriously decadent swirl of jointment magic that just soaks in and provides quick relief.

We strongly believe in minimizing waste and the environmental impact at every step. We use recyclable containers and run our business with a mind to choosing an environmentally sustainable option whenever possible, and are  trying to influence the industry to adopt more sustainable practices. In the future, we are dedicated to either purchasing or creating water-soluble packaging for all our products. We refuse to add more garbage to the world and strive to leave a smaller footprint on our planet.
